DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
This is a 1970 Canadian 25-cent piece in Proof-Like (PL) condition, extracted from an original Royal Canadian Mint double-dollar set. Never circulated, with the characteristic mirrored fields and frosted devices that define the PL finish — a step above a standard BU strike in both visual appeal and collectibility.
The 1970 quarter features the classic caribou reverse design by Emanuel Hahn, which has graced the Canadian quarter since 1937. This particular issue is struck in 100% nickel — a composition adopted by the RCM in 1968 following the discontinuation of the 80% silver quarter, making these transitional-era coins of particular interest to collectors tracking the evolution of Canadian coinage.
Proof-Like sets from this era were individually handled and packaged at the mint, resulting in coins with superior surface quality compared to circulation strikes. A great vintage piece with strong eye appeal.
