This is a 1907 U.S. Philippine 20 Centavos silver coin — a 118-year-old 75% silver piece struck in the early years of American administration over the Philippines, following the Spanish-American War of 1898 and the subsequent Philippine-American War. One of the earliest dates in the entire U.S. Philippine coinage series and a cornerstone piece for collectors of this fascinating colonial numismatic chapter.
The U.S. Philippine coinage series was established by the Philippine Coinage Act of 1903, which created a new monetary system for the islands under American authority. The 1907 issue represents one of the founding years of this series — struck either at the Philadelphia Mint or the Manila Mint depending on mint mark presence
The obverse features the seated female figure representing Liberty or the Filipino nation, with an anvil and a rising sun — a powerful allegory for industry and progress under the new American administration. The reverse bears the American bald eagle over a shield, with the "United States of America" and "Philippine Islands" legends framing the design — a uniquely bicultural coin that reflects the complex colonial history of the archipelago at the turn of the 20th century.
