DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
This coin commemorates the 75th anniversary of the start of World War II and features the iconic photograph titled “Wait for me, Daddy”, captured in New Westminster, British Columbia, in 1940. The image shows a young boy reaching for his father’s hand as Canadian soldiers marched off to war — a powerful symbol of sacrifice and family.
The reverse design, by artist Laurie McGaw, depicts this moving scene with great detail, framed by the distinctive bi-metallic composition of Canada’s $2 coin. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt.
