DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
This listing offers a complete original mint roll of 25 × 2023 "Elsie MacGill" coloured Canadian one-dollar loonies in Brilliant Uncirculated condition — all sourced directly from the Royal Canadian Mint special wrap roll, untouched and in pristine factory-fresh condition.
This commemorative loonie honours the remarkable Elsie Gregory MacGill — known as the "Queen of the Hurricanes" — one of Canada's most inspiring and trailblazing figures in engineering, aviation, and women's rights. Born in Vancouver in 1905, MacGill became the first woman in the world to earn a degree in electrical engineering (University of Toronto, 1927) and subsequently the first woman in North America to earn a master's degree in aeronautical engineering (University of Michigan). Her achievements are all the more remarkable given that she completed her advanced studies while recovering from a severe bout of polio that left her requiring crutches for the rest of her life — a testament to extraordinary determination and resilience.
During the Second World War, MacGill served as Chief Aeronautical Engineer at Canadian Car and Foundry in Fort William, Ontario, where she oversaw the mass production of the Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft — a pivotal contribution to the Allied war effort that earned her the legendary nickname "Queen of the Hurricanes." She later became a passionate advocate for women's rights and served on the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada.
The coloured reverse design incorporates gold, green, brown and red/blue military accents evoking MacGill's dual legacy in aviation engineering and the RCAF, with her portrait rendered in vivid detail — one of the most visually compelling coloured loonies in the series. This is also one of the first coins to bear the effigy of King Charles III on Canadian circulation coinage, marking a new royal era in Canadian numismatic history.
Obverse: Effigy of King Charles III by Steven Rosati — first year of Charles III effigy
Reverse: Elsie MacGill "Queen of the Hurricanes" colourized commemorative design
Diameter: 26.5 mm | Weight: 6.27 g per coin | Composition: Aureate-Bronze Plated Steel with colour

Original mint special wrap — all 25 coins untouched and in pristine BU condition. A powerful tribute to a Canadian pioneer — on a first-year King Charles III issue that marks a historic new chapter in Canadian coinage.
