DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
Offered is an authentic 1837 City Bank One Penny / Deux Sous Copper Token, one of the most popular and collectible pre-Confederation Canadian bank tokens. Issued by the Quebec Bank, these merchant tokens circulated widely throughout the Province of Canada during the early nineteenth century to help ease the shortage of official small change.
This circulated example exhibits honest wear, natural copper toning, and surface marks consistent with its age and circulation. The obverse features the familiar standing figure of Britannia, while the reverse displays the denomination in both English and French: "One Penny / Un Sou & Deux Sous", making it an iconic piece of early Canadian numismatic history.
An excellent addition to any Canadian token collection, colonial coin collection, or early banking and merchant token collection.
