ABOUT THE PARASAUROLOPHUS:
Parasaurolophus was a herbivorous hadrosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It is particularly recognizable for its long, hollow cranial crest, which scientists believe may have been used for communication and possibly other functions. The dinosaur is associated with fossil discoveries in western North America, including Alberta, making it a fitting subject for a Royal Canadian Mint collection celebrating Canada's prehistoric past.
