DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
This is an original 1835-1838 Lower Canada 1 Sou copper token from Montreal, commonly known as a "Bouquet" token. These historic colonial tokens circulated in Lower Canada during the pre-Confederation period and are an interesting part of early Canadian numismatic history.
The obverse features the distinctive floral bouquet surrounded by the inscription "AGRICULTURE & COMMERCE" and "BAS-CANADA." The reverse features the denomination "UN SOU" within a wreath of leaves, together with "TOKEN" and "MONTREAL."
This example is graded approximately G-4 / Good, showing substantial circulation wear consistent with its age. The highest points of the design are significantly worn, with considerable smoothing to the surfaces and relief. Despite the heavy wear, the overall design, lettering, and historical character of the token remain identifiable.
The token is struck in copper and measures approximately 27 mm in diameter. This is an excellent affordable example for collectors interested in Lower Canada, colonial Canadian tokens, Montreal trade tokens, or early Canadian numismatics.
