This is a 1971-P Kennedy Half Dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint — a classic and iconic piece of American coinage history. The "P" mint mark designates Philadelphia production, and this issue marks a significant transitional year: 1971 was the first year the Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in copper-nickel clad composition for general circulation, following the end of the 40% silver clad issues used from 1965 to 1970.

First introduced in 1964 to honour President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in November 1963, the Kennedy Half Dollar remains one of the most beloved and widely collected coins in US numismatic history.
